Entering a new year means the start of new beginnings and reflecting on the past year. In this generation, music has become an integral part of people’s daily lives. People use music to help them focus on daily tasks, relieve stress or anxiety, create a certain mood or emotion, and help them enjoy themselves in the present moments.
Apple Music and Spotify are two popular streaming platforms. At the end of every year, both platforms recap the listening music history for the year, including the top music artists, the top songs, and the number of minutes spent listening to music.
My friend Riya and I compared our 2024 music recaps, even though she uses Spotify and I use Apple Music. As I analyzed and compared our recaps, it was clear we have different tastes in music! Riya’s top artists included Travis Scott, SZA, Doechii, Gracie Abrams, Ariana Grande, and Sabrina Carpenter. Looking over my Apple Music wrapped for 2024, there is a noticeable shift in music genres. My top artists include Zach Bryan, Noah Kahan, Gracie Abrams, Taylor Swift, and Sabrina Carpenter. While I listen to more of country, Riya listens to a little more rap. We both love pop music with Gracie Abrams and Sabrina Carpenter.
