On Sunday, October 22nd, pink and proud, the St. E’s community joined more than a thousand walkers at the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in Parsippany. The National Honor Society orchestrated the nearly decade-long Academy tradition, this year galvanizing current and past members of the administration (as well as their beloved pets!) into participating.
Members of the National Honor Society showcased their support of breast cancer survivors by wearing shirts designed by Peer-Tutoring Coordinator Amelia Lisco ’24. Upon arriving at the location, temporary face tattoos distributed by the Walk’s volunteers became an eager addition to members’ pink “uniforms.”
Despite the alluring amenities, Academy walkers agree that they enjoyed the event for a more profound reason. Vice President of the NHS, Sophie Deutsch ’24, writes, “My favorite part about the cancer walk was being able to join together in solidarity as a school community and with others to fight for a cause that has impacted the lives of so many people. It was such a wonderful experience to be surrounded by a sea of pink and fellow walkers with attitudes of excitement, determination, and passion.”
The National Honor Society is excited to have concluded its month-long Breast Cancer Awareness activities on a high note. The Walk not only provided an opportunity to engage in the wider community but also signified the conclusion of a tremendous fundraising effort: the St.E’s community donated a total of $5,228.73 to the American Cancer Society.
Considering the current trajectory, this “sea of pink” is not likely to recede any time soon.
