On Monday, September 18, a thrilling email was sent to the Academy of Saint Elizabeth community. The subject line titled “WINTER MUSICAL!!!!” announcing the school’s first-ever winter musical was from Ms. Christin and Ms. Erin, Saint E’s dance and theater directors. The Academy of Saint Elizabeth Theater presents–drumroll, please– Irving Berlin’s White Christmas! This announcement left Academy musical theater lovers excited and eager to start rehearsals! But first: auditions. The auditions occurred on Monday, September 25th, and Tuesday, September 26th. Students are anxiously awaiting the cast list to see who will play the iconic Haynes Sisters, Bob Wallace–played by Bing Crosby in the 1954 movie–, and Phil Wallace! Who will sing “Sisters” and “White Christmas”? We will wait for September 28th to find out! The show will take place on Sunday, December 3rd at Ridgedale Middle School, 71 Ridgedale Avenue in Florham Park.
For those unfamiliar with White Christmas, the synopsis is that two singers, Betty and Judy, join a sister act to perform at a Vermont Christmas show. The inn where they stay is in danger of shutting down since the owner, Phil and Bobs Wallaces’ former commanding General from World War II, struggles to keep business afloat. Judy, Betty Phil, and Bob decide to put on a spectacular Christmas show to save the inn. Phil falls in love with Judy, and Bob falls in love with Betty during the wonderfully cheerful musical. This musical is full of Christmas cheer, vintage Christmas-themed gowns, and heart-warming music. Through help and collaboration, the inn’s community overcomes difficulty. What will the outcome be? Will they save the inn? You will have to come find out on December 3rd!
