Model United Nations

The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 after the Second World War by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights. Model UN is a model of this for elementary, high school, and college students. The Model UN Club at the Academy participates in conferences hosted by an educational company called Best Delegate. Best Delegate teaches students to look at the issues that we face in the world today and encourages them to find ways to solve them. Best Delegate hopes that students participating in conferences can lead the world someday to a better, more peaceful, just, and sustainable future.

The Model UN Club at the Academy has a conference on December 11. In this conference, there are several committees like Clean Water and Indigenous Rights. In each committee each person is assigned a particular country, and represents this country in the conference. Each person gives a 60 second speech about their country and discusses possible solutions to problems their nation and specific committee faces. Awards are given out at the end of each conference based on many factors. The club has been meeting very frequently lately to prepare for the conference. Good luck Panthers!
