Apple Crumble!

Fall is apple season, and that means a surplus of apple-themed foods. This includes anything from an apple pie to apple cider, all recognizable and delicious fall foods. They also make excellent gifts, whether you’re sharing with a neighbor or with family. Farm-picked apples aren’t even necessarily required to make an outstanding apple dish! Here’s a recipe for an amazing apple crisp, which we recommend for anyone who is looking to get into the fall spirit!

Here are the ingredients you’ll need:

  • Oats (old fashioned are recommended)
  • Brown sugar
  • Flour
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Butter (soft, but not melted)
  • Chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, or almonds all work great)
  • Apples (tart apples are best, like Granny Smith)

Start by mixing all the ingredients for the topping until they are crumbly, then set the crumb mixture aside while the apples are prepped. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, and spray the bottom of a baking dish (we used a 9 by 13 inch dish) with nonstick spray. Next, press about one third of the crumbs into the bottom of the pan. After that is done, peel the apples and slice them so that they are about one quarter inch thick. Spread them over the crust, and sprinkle with a cinnamon sugar mixture. Bake this for about 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the top is golden brown.

Have fun with it! This recipe does not need to be exact for it to be delicious, so add different nuts or toppings as you wish.
