Spooky Season at the Academy

As we all know, Halloween is almost here! An upcoming event to celebrate is the pumpkin carving contest. Carving pumpkins and other vegetables started during the 19th century in Ireland and the Scottish Highlands. Carving pumpkins was said to scare away evil spirits but today it’s a fun fall activity for people of all ages. Carved pumpkins should be dropped off in the study hall before classes start on Friday, October 29th. I’m super excited to see all the creative carvings you all come up with! Another upcoming event is the homeroom door decorating contest. The doors will be judged onOctober 29th. Decorating your homeroom doors is a fun activity to do with your class during lunch or before morning prayer. Good luck everyone, and I can’t wait to see all the creepy doors!

It has been about a month since the school year began. By now, many clubs have held meetings during lunch throughout the school. There are many clubs to choose from, so make sure to take a good look at the clubs available. If you are unsure about joining a club but want to get to learn more about it then visit one of the interest meetings. Interest meetings are an amazing way to learn about the clubs and see what they will be doing throughout the year. If you end up enjoying the interest meeting then talk to the club manager, or shoot her an email about potential club meeting times and other events. If you still aren’t sure about joining, that’s okay too. It is important to find something you will enjoy doing for the rest of the year and it’s a great idea to join a few clubs to find something you enjoy or to make friends who share the same interests as you!
