Did you know the Sisters of Charity have a beach campus in Long Beach Island? The Sisters of Charity graciously invited AOSE’s Class of 2025 to Maris Stella in Harvey Cedars, LBI. Members of the senior class enjoyed three days and two nights down the shore for their senior retreat.
The girls celebrated Mass with Father Tom each morning and ended each night with karaoke with the chaperones. Each day was filled with activities planned by Mrs. Stefanelli, the head of the Theology Department. She ensured that students deepened their faith, found peace in their surroundings, learned from classmates and guest speakers, and had fun growing closer to God.
A majority of the activities were kept a secret so that seniors could be surprised, so I won’t spoil everything for the incoming classes. What I can say is that if anyone has ever been a part of a retreat before (if you are receiving your Confirmation, then a retreat was most likely a requirement), then you know that there is a beloved staple of the retreat that will be touching and ensure that each girl knows how loved she is. It was so touching to see everyone’s reactions to this special surprise, and it will certainly be continued into future senior retreats.
On the last day, after the deeply spiritual and emotional journey, the seniors were surprised with a lunch and shopping excursion in Long Branch. The retreat incorporated a calming, healing, and bonding experience for the seniors– a nice respite from the otherwise hectic and stressful end of senior year.
