If you give a girl a cookie, she’s going to ask for more! With skyrocketing demand for Academy cookies, there is no better time to explore the cafeteria’s scrumptious sweets.
The introduction of large, warm chocolate chunk cookies (sold for $2 each) has recently focused the spotlight on St. E’s catering. In the study hall, it is not uncommon to find the cookie platter empty within the first few minutes of the lunch period. Due to their popularity, the cookies have recently begun being sold throughout the school day. Students can often be found during their free periods using a fork to snack on the dessert— a necessity, given the cookie’s unusual size.
Besides chocolate chip, other flavors continue to make an appearance in the lunch lines: s’more, red velvet, and double chocolate chip. S’more cookies have swiftly become a student favorite since their debut at the beginning of the school year. The insertion of chocolate chips and marshmallow fluff provides a unique twist that mimics the classic camp treat. Despite the notorious 50-cent increase in price from $1.00 to $1.50, normal-sized cookie sales are still selling strong.
The cookies themselves are baked by the Academy food service staff. Every morning, frozen dough is thawed and placed into ovens behind the study hall. Upperclassmen may already be aware of this fact, considering an unforgettable incident in the fall of 2021 during which burnt cookies precipitated a fire drill. Yet, the cookie craze is far from overdone. From the look of things, students’ sweet tooths, and the cookies’ popularity, are likely to endure for years to come.

The cookies at the Academy for sure have a grip on people. I honestly wonder at the end of the year, how many cookies are purchased and or eaten. It would be interesting to start keeping track of how many pounds of dough are used in a school year!
