The 2023-24 school year has come with several changes to the Academy’s club options; the French club has a new moderator, the newspaper has a new name, and several new clubs have been created. One such club is the baking club, officially known as “Seaster’s Baked Goods.”
Sophomores Emily Muir ’26 as president and Julia Calderaro ’26 as vice president lead the Academy’s highly-anticipated baking club. They have appointed junior Emily O’Donohue ’25 as the club’s treasurer, and Katie Walker ’26 (myself) as secretary. The famed Mr. Yarnall is to assume the role of moderator, so the club is clearly in excellent hands.
The mission of the club is to get more girls involved in our favorite hobby, which is, of course, baking. With the formation of this club, we wish to create an inclusive community consisting of both amateur and long-time bakers – anyone is welcome, even if you’ve never touched a spatula in your life. Not only will we be benefiting Academy students with a safe space to chat and share sweet treats, but we will also be giving back to our community in several ways. We plan to gift some of our home-baked goods to members of the school’s staff as a thank-you for their hard work and dedication, elderly citizens, and those in need.
As for club meetings, we plan to meet up every other week. We will start with any updates or announcements and move on to whatever activity may be planned. We will discuss ideas, decorate and create delicious treats, and share recipes and baked goods. We will also host occasional events, such as bake sales fundraising for local charities.
Several other ideas are being considered and will be discussed at the following meetings. For example, we have been thinking of creating a Saint Elizabeth recipe book or website filled with recipes contributed by our club members.
We are also brainstorming more charitable activities and activities for regular club meetings. Suggestions are welcome, and we value any input!
The baking club is still a work in progress, but club leaders have been working hard to make it an entertaining environment with plenty of exciting activities for students to participate in. To join in on the fun, talk to one of the club leaders or find the Google Classroom with the code “pd6izhl” and come to our next meeting!
